Rolling Window
i
SchengenTrack's algorithm strictly follows the official 180-Day Rolling Window rule used by European border control. Instead of looking forward, the system always looks backward 180 days from today (or your planned travel date). It checks if the total number of days spent inside the Schengen Area exceeds 90 within this moving timeframe. As time moves forward, the 180-day window moves with it. Older trips eventually fall outside this window, freeing up "new" allowed days for you.

Questions? Answers!
Find quick answers to the most common questions about the Schengen 90/180 rule.
What exactly is the Schengen 90/180-day rule?
How does the "Rolling Window" calculation work?
Which countries are included in this calculation?
The rule applies to all countries in the Schengen Area. This includes most EU countries (like France, Germany, Italy, and Spain) plus non-EU countries like Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
Note: As of 2024/2025, Bulgaria and Romania have joined the Schengen Area. Countries like Turkey, Serbia, and the UK are not part of Schengen, so stays there do not count towards your 90-day limit.
Does a stay in a non-Schengen country pause my limit?
What are the consequences of overstaying?
Overstaying is taken very seriously by border authorities. Consequences can include:
- • Heavy Fines: Often ranging from hundreds to thousands of Euros.
- • Deportation: Immediate removal from the Schengen Area.
- • Entry Bans: You may be banned from re-entering any Schengen country for 3 to 10 years.
- • Future Visa Denials: An overstay makes it much harder to get any visa in the future.
When does my 90-day limit fully reset?
